Vintage Secretary Desk

I was commissioned to paint this vintage secretary bookcase white for my neighbor who’s mother had passed away. She told me that her mother gave her this piece which made it extremely special but it did not match the decor in her house. As I was painting it I asked her if she wanted to add any special touches to the piece that reminded her of her mother.

I suggested that maybe we use some wallpaper inside to make it stand out. She picked out the peel and sick wall paper because her mom loved green so I placed that on the inside of the glass windows and some on the interior of the secretary desk. Then I asked her if I could put a wood stained rose when you open the secretary part of the bookcase and she said yes. Then I asked if there was a special saying that her mother would always say or a saying that would remind her kids of their grandmother. She found this sticky note with her mothers handwriting that said, “Time is ticking away it can not be stopped. But, you can make every moment in time worthwhile.” So I added the writing and added the rose in wood stain so her mother’s words would be remembered forever there.
